Bullroarers

Bullroarers

Bullroarers - "Tovokimpi" - it is a piece of wood tied to a string. When you swing it around in a circular motion, it roars with the sound of the wind. It's used to call in the rain clouds and also the snake warriors use it for guarding the snake kivas. The sound of it lets people know they are on duty guarding.

I was born in Tuba City, Arizona and I am from the Corn clan of lower Moencopi. I've been carving kachina dolls since I was 10 years old. I learned from my dad when he used to make kachina dolls and also learned silversmith work from him as time went on.

I am a US Marine Veteran having served our country. I have travelled the world leaving some kachina dolls here and there while overseas. I am a Hopi traditional and have a lot of respect for all mankind. I pray every morning to the great Creator. My kids also go along with me to pray for all.
